New Riff Single Barrel Rye is exactly what it sounds like. One barrel, tasted and approved on its own, bottled straight from the cask at full barrel proof. No blending other barrels in to smooth things out, no water added unless you add it yourself. This particular barrel was laid down in 2019 and rested at least four years in new charred oak before it earned its spot in a bottle.

Nose: Rye spice and pepper up front, with caramel, oak and a touch of citrus underneath.

Palate: Full and rich. Rye spice and dill lead the way, backed by oak, caramel and a bit of dried fruit.

Finish: Long, warm and dry. Oak and spice hang around with a light citrus lift at the end.

Distillery Information

New Riff Distilling is based in Newport, Kentucky, just across the river from Cincinnati. Ken Lewis started the place in 2014 with a simple rule. Nothing gets released until it's good enough to be Bottled in Bond, so the first bottles didn't land until the whiskey hit four years old. That same standard runs through the Single Barrel program. Every barrel is tasted by the production team before it's approved, and this one made the cut.

New Riff bottles everything non-chill-filtered and skips the shortcuts a lot of newer distilleries lean on. What's in the barrel is what ends up in your glass.
